About this role

 

 

The Managing Director is the executive leader of BCA, responsible for delivering our vision, mission and strategy.

This includes:

  • Leading BCA’s talented team, building a positive, empowering and collaborative working culture.
  • Ensuring delivery of our Strategic Business Plan and income-generation strategy.
  • Developing and sustaining key external relationships, including funders, partners and supporters.
  • Safeguarding the financial and operational health of the organisation, including budgeting and reporting.
  • Championing BCA’s public presence – locally, nationally and internationally – with authority, clarity and ambition.
  • Working closely with the Chair and Board of Trustees to support good governance and strategic oversight.

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A track record of successful organisational leadership, ideally in the cultural, heritage, charity or adjacent sectors.
  • Strong financial literacy and confidence managing budgets and reporting to funders and Boards.
  • Extensive experience in sustained fundraising or income generation, with the ability to build trust and secure support from funders and donors.
  • Emotional intelligence and people management skills – able to inspire, support and develop individuals and teams.
  • Deep respect for Black British history and lived experience, and a commitment to equity, justice and transformation.
